The Message

I have always been a fan of road signs.
I appreciate the intelligence and the work that goes into designing one that can be universally relevant and understood.

One of my cyber buddies Gizelle has a blog called Vienna Daily Photography.
It is a wonderful photojournal about her life in Vienna.
One of her posts had a picture of a wonderfully useful, relevant and modern signage series that is used in their train system. It is worth visiting just to see the direction that modern day signage is taking.

Wonderful graphics
Colorful
Artistic
Imaginative
Professional

Road signs, facility signs, transportation signs ...
A triumph of graphics and color
A success of communications
A whole message and process of thought embodied in a simple graphic
The challenge to graphic artists to address the universality of their message is formidable

In the Philippines, our need for universal signage is the same as the rest of the world
The challenge is the same - and WE as usual do not disappoint

Pinoy signs
A triumph of necessity and ingenuity
A success of communication equal to that of any other country
Very subtle
Intelligent
Comprehensive
Perhaps different
But effective

Uniquely Pinoy

Road signs are a very interesting topic.

You can find a web site which makes a comparison between road signs in many parts of the world.
I contributed some road signs of the Philippines.

Did you know that the Philippines has the most rocks in the "falling rocks" sign?

There are three categories: falling rocks, children crossing and men at work. You can see the links at the end of the page.

I will suggest a "no urinating" sign category to the web site owner... looks like there might be some competition ahead... in shape and size... ;-)I hope this will not start WW III

Thanks for the mention, hiya naman ako (duh, wala ako nun). I have some update for you about 'Ken Lee' Lookie lookie here.

Only in the Philippines would you see that sign I guess...I'll link back to this soon too hehe-

Sidney,

Yes - we could start a category.
Shape and size should of course conform to standards of "truth in advertising" ...

Thanks for the lookie lookie link.
She's a bonafide star ...

Yes - when you have time, return to the dagul link - and stare ...
It can be hypnotizingly ridiculous, but clearly worth a good laugh.

hahahaha this sign should be posted on every wall, every pader, post, bushes, parking lot, and open lot. this is also a good bumper sticker---just to remind pinoys [and dog owners] that parked cars are not urinals.:D

This is so funny. I knew there would be a strange sign at the end, and that it would probably be another misspelled or grammatically incorrect sign. I did not expect that it would something like this! Haha.

At least we have signs now right? Usually you'd only see, "Bawal umihi dito" hahaha!
